What does egocentric video mean?
It is a recording made from the perspective of those who participate in the action. The term POV, in the English point of view, also appears in this context. This point of view can show the relationship between hands, objects and activity, although not every first-person video has adequate framing for a collection.
The Ego4D research project uses egocentric videos to study understanding of human activities. Its documentation distinguishes research tasks and describes video annotations. It is a reference for this data type, with no confirmed commercial relationship to the campaigns on this site.
First person and third person
In the first person, the camera accompanies the participant's perspective. In the third person, an external camera observes the scene. Imagine someone folding a shirt: one view can favor the details close to the hands, while another shows better the position of the person in the environment.
The choice depends on the project. Do not change the recording position yourself when the campaign requires a specific format. A visually appealing video may fail its purpose if it hides the very interaction that needs to be recorded.
Do a brief check before the session
With the support set, test a simple task in a safe place. See if the two hands and necessary objects remain in the frame. Note if there are reflections, counterlight or obstacles covering the lens. Also check if the support is comfortable and firm, without limiting your vision or your movements.
Play the test snippet before starting the full session. Do not assume that the position is correct only because the camera is turned on. If the campaign specifies orientation, resolution, frame rate or application, these requirements prevail over a generic setting.
Record the activity, not an edited montage
Follow the rules on continuity and editing. Cuts, acceleration and filters may remove necessary information or make the file incompatible with the request. Do not reuse third-party videos and do not send old recordings without express campaign authorization.
Organize the preparation in three moments: check the environment, check the capture and review the upload. This routine helps to identify simple errors before investing more time, but does not represent a promise of approval. The decision remains with the person responsible for the analysis.
Is the compatible cell phone enough?
Compatibility is an entry requirement, not a quality assurance. Free space, battery, clean lens and frame also matter in practice. Please refer to the requirements page and the current campaign before purchasing accessories or switching devices. Then use the recording guide to organize the first session.
